High Standards?
I blipped this picture of my "She's got Standards" pink vinyl single from my room tonight because i'm doing a politics essay and i noticed that it has been sitting on my desk for a while.
I am fortunate enough to have access to a fantastic turntable and amplifier system in my house yet somehow i have only played this single once, probably becaise i have to take time to set it up properly, changed the speed etc whereas i could just play the song through my ipod stereo at the touch of a button.
I suppose that says something about my impatience, maybe subconciously i feel i dont have the time so it would never occur to me to play a record over an mp3 because it takes longer. Maybe music is just background noise that i need when im soing something else like going online, doing work or driving the car.
I dont know about anyone else but i rarely just sit down to music and listen. Im always doing something else, which kind of takes away from the experience. However, when i do i always here new parts to a song or instruments that i dont normally hear and its actually quite exciting. You hear a new layer of bass guitar, a keyboard harmony or other instrument you dont normally hear. Old pieces can seem almost "remastered" if you listen intently for "more" of the song.
One last thing i want to discuss is the difference between vinyl and other music mediums. I listen to the highest quality audio i can get a hold of through my ipod sound system or fairly good headphones and i really enjoy the sound however it just doesnt seem to be as dynamic as vinyl. Whenever my dad plays records, the sound seems to have another dimension, an organic quality that makes it sound alive.
Thanks for listening . . .
