clark kent....superman!
example: advert for opticians, "oogmerk opticians'
source: http://www.frederiksamuel.com/blog/2007/06/oogmerk-opticians.html
analysis:
these series of advertisements play on the stereotypes the general public has regarding "easy" women, butchers, hells angels, and truck drivers, as well as people who wear glasses:
1. the people depicted on the left normally do not wear glasses
2. "hard" women, artists, fashion designers, and professors (as depicted on the right) normally wear glasses
3. people who wear glasses are seen as more sophisticated or intelligent versus people who do not wear glasses
as a result, there is an implied stereotype that "easy" women, butchers, hells angels, and truck drivers are less sophisticated, intelligent, or command less respect than "hard" women, artists, fashion designers, and professors.
that is definitely a contentious issue which could spark much debate, but these ads certainly casts a positive light on eyeglasses and the high probability of, perhaps initially undeserved or unwarranted, respect and high regard wearing glasses may bring to the wearer.
