Probably Newcastles most famous landmark is the Tyne Bridge, also known as the King George V bridge who opened it in 1928.

Much rumoured to be a trial run for the Sydney Harbour Bridge it was in fact the other way around with the designers Mott, Hay & Anderson basing their design on their existing design for the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

The Sydney Harbour Bridge was started before the Tyne Bridge but due tobeing smaller the Geordie version was completed three years earlier.
