Next move

As Adam was grabbed and hustled out of the room, Hewson turned to the Major.

"Well?" he said, exasperated and accusatory. "Another failure. Your infallible equipment doesn't seem to work on him. So what next, then? What next?"

If the Major was rattled, he didn't show it.

"Well, I'd have thought that was obvious, old son. We can't let him get in the way, can we now?"

Hewson shook his head.

"Quite right. No, only one thing for it. We need to get rid of him."

Hewson raised his eyebrows. "You mean...?"

"Don't look so surprised - you know exactly what I mean. Mr Cotter won't be causing us any more problems. We can sort it as easy as that."

He snapped his fingers, the sound making Hewson jump.

The Major laughed. "Don't worry, you won't get any blood on your hands. Well, not literally, anyway."
