Floods?

This one is for M&Z (MissU2), they won't believe this is the place where we had a picnic just over two months ago!

We decided to go for a ride this afternoon, to see if the damn levels has risen! Wow, what a suprise!!!

The club where we usually go with our boat almost ran out of visitors up to yesterday! The level of the dam was só low, we could not launch our boats there anymore! But this afternoon, it looked like this picture there! The cement table and the permanent BBQ grill in the middle of the picture, is the exact spot where MissU2 and us had our lovely picnic for one whole day in October. The lawns were still quite far beyond the table, we had our camping chairs spread all over the lawns on the far side of the BBQ, in order to avoid the BBQ smoke! Note the little waves next to the table, that is where the cement benches are next to the table, now tótally under water!

The manager of the club says that this is the highest the water has risen here in the 30 years since he started visiting this site! The water rose up to the barriers where the cars park. According to people who were having picnics there when the rain stopped late this morning, it all happened in three hours! They've noticed the water rising just about 13:00 and by 16:00 it was this high!

Water Affairs says it is not the end of it, they expect real floodwater to arrive during the night! All the sluise gates were already open and the water still rushed over the damwall as well! We wanted to drive through the tunnel and over the bridge, but the traffic was directed away from the damwall!

Our main news tonight is about the floods in Johannesburg and Pretoria! My goodness, I never thought it was só bad!! We had 103mm rain since Tuesday, which is a lot, but no flooding! We saw pictures on TV News tonight, of mini bus taxis, completely under water, only the roofs show! Houses and businesses are 3-4ft under water, the catchment areas for Hartbeespoortdam had terribly heavy rains, some towns in Gauteng and Nort-West Province had up to 141mm in 24 hours!!

I feel só sorry for the people with flooded houses and cars!! Yikes, I never thought it would rain só much just about 30km's from us!
