It has been noted that the Jarvis tends to avoid Irish bars, unless he happens to be in Ireland or there are special circumstances involved (such as "friendly" prices at an Irish pub in Oslo). The Jarvis is not xenophobic, it's just that most Irish bars are shite. It is often edifying to experience an international flavour in a bar without actually going overseas, hence a midweek trip to Pigalle, a Parisian-style bar in Oslo. The Jarvis appreciates the way a French bar named after a red-light district can imply sleaze without actually having anything sleazy going on inside, apart from the occasional amorous dance between drunken office Christmas party revellers.
