.....that spirit of Christmas....

My Christmas spirit has finally arrived.

Actually, it's a few Christmas spirits, Irish Cream, Martini, JD, white rum, Russian Standard vodka and genuine Siberian vodka. There's also 3 crates of beer in the garage.

I suppose you could call this the Spirit of Christmas present, but I'm pretty sure that in just over a week's time it'll all be gone, the Spirit of Christmas past.

Was at the doctor this morning for a blood pressure check and blood tests. Arrived at 8.45 for a 9.00 appointment, wasn't seen until 9.25. the nurse took my pressure (154/82) and said "Ooh, that's a bit high" (This to man who a few years back was rushed into hospital with a fixed pupil in the right eye and a pressure of 236/142!). She seemed a bit put out when I pointed out that I'd been waiting 25 minutes past my appontment time, and I had places to go, also not having eaten or drunk anything since 8p.m. the night before and that might explain the slightly high reading. The next question from her probably only served to bump it a bit higher, " Can you call back in next Tuesday for another check?". Of course I can, it's not like there's anything else happening over the next week or so, is it?

Eventually got away, bought the booze and a few last minute presents, and then feeling decidely ill due to lack of food and fluids, I called in at a well known burger chain, for a coffee, a festive burger and then a ciggie!

That's it, we're ready.....except for a bottle of lime cordial, and a Euromillions lottery ticket! Tomorrow evening we're off out for a curry (all you can eat buffet) and then we're doing sod all on Christmas Eve!

Today's Christmas fact...........Why does Santa wear red and white?

Because of the Coca-Cola company! The original Father Christmas wore green and brown and a crown of Holly and the original Saint Nicholas was in Bishop's robes and mitre. In 1931 the Coka-Cola company decided to use Santa in an advertising campaign and hired Haddon Sundblom to draw the ad, the only stipulation being that the corporate colours of red and white should feature prominently. Sundblom decided on a floppy hat with white trim, a long red coat tied witha black belt and trimmed in white, red trousers and black boots. This became so popular that it is now the standard world wide apart from in Holland where they still have Sinta Klaas as a bishop and in the North of England where Santa often wears a long flowing cloak with a hood.
