Mapping a journey

This is the compass I bought Dave for Xmas. he is planning a short tramp with Anton over the next few days (weather depending).

I like the fact that there are two things in the photo both incomprehensible to me but I don't need to worry about figuring them out! Actually three things if you count the concept of the tramp itself and sleeping on a thin little mat on hard ground. I am happy to stay home with a good book.
