Should auld acquaintance be forgot?

Might be rhetorical question but having slipped and slithered around on the ice yet again today I will most probably look forward to forgetting the snow and ice which has lasted so persistently. It's become a daily acquaintance in trying to cope with it to the point where it's becoming hard to remember what its like to walk without having to take extra care because of ice.
