New Years Day
Result! No Hangover, just wonderful memories of a fantastic New Years Eve celebration! I hope you all had a good night last night and are not suffering too much ;-)
We decided that the best start to the New Year in Ambleside would be to go for a walk so we just went for a meander up to Stock Ghyll Falls, enjoyed the fresh air and meeting like minded people exchanging hellos and Happy New Years as we passed! I love that kind of thing and I don't think we do it enough, but in certain situations it still remains and it warms the heart to hear peoples pleasant and friendly gestures.
Afterwards we hit the shops for a bit of retail therapy. I was stuck to window shopping as I don't get paid for holidays and I'm feeling the pinch now. R though purchased a hood for his buffalo jacket and did some research into new Goretex jackets his current one is finally starting to give up the ghost such a shame after nearly 20 years!
We had an obligatory coffee at Zefferalis (if you know Ambleside you'll know Zefs) did a bit more retail therapy and then made our way back to the Youth Hostel. On our way back we got a call from from A&L to see if R would listen to their Land Rover so they met us at the YHA, A & R did the boy landy thing and L & I stayed inside in the warmth doing the girlie thing... having a darn good yarn!
We then went out for drinks... separated for dinner and then met up for another drink afterwards. R & I were quite surprised that Zefs is now a vegetarian restaurant on an evening! Ah well the butternut squash pizza was very nice! The biggest surprise though was turning round half was through the meal to find an ex course colleague from my A level days sitting on the next table... we hadn't seen each other for 15 years! Nice catch up!
Loving the Lake District and have come to the conclusion that we don't get up there often enough!
