The Southernmost Tip of Africa: Cape Point
I walked to Simonstad with my mum this morning before breakfast, to avoid the midday heat. We walked along the railway line, which is currently out of service between Fish Hoek and Simon's Town, to avoid breathing in car fumes. It was fun walking on one track and trying to balance.
We stopped for a swim at a great beach opposite the fire station, and then my uncle called and said would we like to go for lunch? He came and picked us up and took us to Cape Point to a fab restaurant with views of the end of Africa. Then we went up the funicular (cable car thingy) to the lighthouse which is where you can view this (above). I opted to walk down, as I found it a bit hot in the cable car. I got down in 10 mins and waited for the others.
Although it is not exactly in the centre, it represents the meeting point of the Atlantic and the Indian oceans. On the Atlantic side (right, visible here) you can see the waves are crashing on the rocks, but on the Indian side it is calm as can be.
Listen to this if you have time. I love Amampondo.
