Another Day At The Office
So we explored the ruins of the Colosseum, the Palatine and the Forum today. I find it so bizarre that these remnants from a society long past still remain in the midst of busy Rome. We only had about half a day to see all of it so needless to say that didn't happen. Especially since we couldn't work our how to get into the damn place. We went wrong from the start and ended up walking around pretty much the entirety of the Forum, before happening upon the Colosseum, doing a quick audio tour, getting lost on our way to the Palatine and then rushing to the train to Florence. I maintain that Rome needs more signs.
A lot of places we went in Italy (and Paris, too, now that I think on it) have reconstruction or repair work going on. I can appreciate why they're doing it, but it sure does know how to get in the way of a good photo. This guy was on purpose though - I just like the thought of comparing him to the men who built the Colosseum in the first place. I don't think they would have had much in common.
