Betcha goin' fishin' all o' da time.....
Another day at work with a sense of there being a hole in our lives. The pupils were informed about our sick colleague at the end of the day, audible gasps, sombre faces , even the odd tear, especially when the line "It's doubtful that he will pull through" was uttered.
And yet life has to go on...a meeting after work to examine the latest "plan" from the powers that be regarding measuring success. We're used to the goal posts being moved, but this time they waited until the ball crossed the line and we'd all turned away from the goal to celebrate..........and then they moved the posts. How to go from a 45+% success rate to a 0% success rate in one easy movement!
When I got home my fuddled brain suddenly locked on to the fact that I have to complete my Angling Coaching course this weekend. I did the first part last February and then had to cancel part 2 for hebs wedding. Now I have only 15 days to finish it or the £240 fee goes west! Yes that's right £240 to qualify to teach others how to fish, £240 to take youngsters off the streets and give them a (hopefully) life long interest....and they wonder why so few people want o become coaches.
So this Saturday I have to deliver a 15 minute lesson/coaching session on a topic of my choice and then sit an exam! Most people will be teaching how to tie knots, set up rigs etc, but I've decided on the external anatomy of the fish, the names of all the fins etc, how they use fins to swim, their senses, what the lateral line is for. I know....it probably sounds like cheating for a Biology teacher to choose anatomy.........but hey I'm paying for it, why not make it easy on myself?
I'm going to teach them and then check on their new found knowledge by getting them to stick labels on an unlabelled version of the fish!
And I drew all the diagrams myself!
Das vidanya and tight lines to you all!
