Let's Hop The Atlantic

Toronto graffiti says it all...

Credit to Nicole for spotting this as we walked down Spadina through Chinatown.

Thursday was busy. Class, more class and lunch with Blaire, met some of her friends from drama, reminded me of my drama crowd at home a bit. More hipster-y though. Which is to be expected, seeing as they are also film students. After some skype chats (new skype=multiple videos!) with people, I met a friend at 5 and we walked down Bloor and Spadina, bumped into her best friend who I know too, and then surprised Blaire at The Dark Horse, a well known coffee shop within the artsy crowd. I took a photo of it cos it's really lovely, glass fronted and full of light coloured wood and brick walls. Kind of Scandinavian. Wonderful coffee that I loaded up with cinnamon and chocolate and sugar. Yum.
Took some photos of the neon lights and Chinese symbols of Spadina, as well as murals and graffiti (amongst some shouts from a madman - common in the area) and my purchase of a large Scottish flag for that night's Pub Night. Our house was hosting and the theme was ABC (Anything But Clothes). The no-nudity policy was hit home, so people were gathering paper bags, cards, bin bags, flags and Nicole had even made a dress out of yellow rubber gloves. Pretty special.
It was a really lovely walk down Queen St W with the four of us. All these artsy stores, all colourful and small and probably really expensive for perfecting the grunge look. We walked for quite a few blocks before reaching the Rotate This record store, reminded me of Avalanche Records back home, only bigger. Well they all look pretty much the same I guess...
Unfortunately they were sold out of Noah and The Whale tickets, but we looked around anyway and Blaire fell in love with some old jazz records.
We got a streetcar back and went on an LCBO run (Magners!) with numerous people and then predrinks. Also got lemonade, limes, lemons and mint for mojito making! Although I don't use the traditional mint liquor and cocktail syrup stuff I'm still getting pretty good at mojitos!
Got our flags pinned and tied to us (Blaire was wearing her Canadian one) and proceeded to get rather merry with various people in our room. Listened to Crystal Castles, Blaire's foam sword made an entrance and eventually we headed off to the pub, which got closed down early due to underage drinking and was a little bit of a failure.
Still we had fun while it lasted. More drinking and drunk Quinto on the floor in a sleeping bag.
