Just Practising!
Mid morning and the local lifeboat crew were practising just outside the house! Well, it gave us something to watch as we had our breakfast in bed and listened to the radio and did our crossword!
The large structure is a pontoon, a floating linkspan for the passenger ferry which runs in the summer. Because the bay is pretty sheltered, it spends the winter here and is a useful roosting place for shags, cormorants and various gulls.
The crew launched the little inflatable and tried to get the outboard motor going. One chap had 20 pulls at it, took his helmet off and had another five goes! Then he let his mate have a go! After another 13 goes, the engine finally spluttered into life and they raced around the bay, giving it a good work out.
Tea with our friend this afternoon - home made hot buttered muffins and lapsang souchong tea! Just what I needed after battling with the internet all day . . . .
