A wizard day

Baked some dropped scones for my pal Mo, who isn't too well at the moment. I paid her a quick visit and distributed a few hugs and some Earl Grey. (We won't mention the Strawberry jam and cream.) Poor Ronald the dog, is almost blind and kept bumping into things, but always bounced back, (off walls and beds etc). He still managed to sniff out the plates with the scones on and try to lick the glaze off them.

Keep your chins up Mo. I'm sure the drugs will kick in soon and we can meet for lunch at the half way house as we used to.

Tonight I dragged Ally out to the Community campus to a presentaion by Colin Prior. It was primarily a launch pad to advertise his new book of photgraphs called High Light, but I did learn a thing or two.

He still uses film and gets it processed in London.

He thinks that B*ggering about with an image on photoshop, means that it wasn't a good image to start with.

He will climb a mountain again and again to get the right conditions for the perfect shot, camping at the summit to get the best light.

Sensor defraction will always affect the quality of an image.

The distance between the lens and the sensor is large because of the space required for the mirror to open and close. Until they get rid of these mirrors, there will always be an internal focus required to allow for this. When they do get rid of the mirrors, our big cameras will be superceded. They will become smaller, lighter and better.

Oh and film will be discontinued in about 4 years time, (Sorry G).

Apart from that, it was a very good slide show and explanation of where and why and how he managed to get his truely awsome images.
