Bank Holiday Monday and it isn't raining! There is always a larger market than usual and a few events around the town on high days and holidays so off we went bright and early this morning into Thirsk. We visited St. Mary's church which is the large church in Thirsk. They are always having exhibitions and this weekend there was a good display mounted by the local Art Society. There are some very talented people around, I spotted a beautiful drawing of 2 horses but it had been sold. The ladies in the crypt do a great job serving homemade cakes and coffee, it was unusually quiet so I hope business picks up for them.
Then we popped into Sowerby which is a nice village lying alongside Thirsk. St Oswald's church were having a flower festival and again we saw the work of some very creative talent. I took lots of pictures but this one had a special appeal. As an ex nurse (as well as an ex teacher) I chose it for nostalgic reasons and I did like the old photos of nurses incorporated in the display. We managed to leave without giving in to the temptation of more cakes and coffee!
