Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

Snuggle

I was at a campus workshop late this afternoon, so when I arrived home Mr. Fun was here with the pups and the Thursday afternoon celebration began. The best way to settle these furry friends is to plop down on the sofa and let them jump onto my lap and lick me and sniff me. As far as they are concerned, I am just part of the "herd" who has been out for the day. A few moments later Mr. Fun sat down beside us.

It wasn't long and little Chloe was snuggled down between the two of us as we sat on the sofa debriefing after our day a part. Mitzi was on the other side of me -- tummy-up looking for some affectionate rubbing. And Max, well he was resting on the cool bricks of the hearth of the fireplace. It was hotter than heck here today or maybe it was just that the heat was intensified by the humidity that accompanied it. The last day of summer was hideous weather; thankfully the evening has brought a delicious cool .

Inspite of the weather, it has been a good day. I had an enjoyable time with my class this morning. Their second project was due and because I had collected the Tuesday class's project 2 days ago, I had seen the numerous mistakes they had made in following instructions. So before collecting the project this morning, I addressed those issues and asked if anyone would like to have a "grace" period to get their project finished correctly. Every student, but one, opted for the extension. I was stunned! I figured that half of them might opt for more time, but not all of them. Good grief. Really their projects were not completely correct because they wouldn't read the instruction in their textbook that I had directed them to. So I got back up on my soapbox and reminded them again that America is losing in the realm of education in comparsion with the other affluent countries in the world and reminded them of their importance in the large scope of things and encouraged them that they need to be willing to work hard and that just skimming the surface won't win them any awards and most likely won't get them the future career and specific job they desire. Then I came to my senses and stepped down off the soapbox and heard the voice in my head asking, "Do they really care or am I wasting my time?" And then the old song by Chicago, "Does anyone really know what time it is?" kept going through my head.

So debriefing with Mr. Fun late this afternoon with two dogs snuggling close was just a sweet moment.

Good night from Southern California.
