Everyday I Write The Book

Salute

Someone hurt their fingers playing basketball. Hence the crepe bandage and a brave salute. I remember doing the same thing at about the same age. Took myself off to casualty on my own and had the swelling drained, which was agony.

The NHS in 1973 was a pretty dire and dusty place. Cracked lino and a broken gas fire in the GP's surgery which was in a dark and draughty old Victorian house. Hospitals were basic by today's standards. Again mostly old with corridors half open to the elements in some places.

It's much better today. Not sure how long it will stay that way ...
