Hawk the Herald Angels Sing
I was on my way to my church to deliver some homemade chicken soup and some dessert of cup-cakes and sugar cookies...when I saw this hawk on the power lines. I quickly turned around and readied my camera. I pulled off the road, and the hawk let me get 1 shot before moving down 3 poles. I pulled ahead, and the bird let me get 1 more shot. I bellowed out..."What in the hawk are you doing?" I thought flattery might help. "Pretty bird...pretty bird." I felt like the kid from Dumb and Dumber. The hawk got into some air currents, and was checking out his domain...too far away for my camera. 2 shots.
The 2 shots took me about 2 minutes...tops. Adding a zero to the 2...it took me 20 minutes on the internet trying to figure out which type it was...until I gave up. The closest picture I matched it to was something called a Sharp-shinned Hawk. I didn't know hawks had shins...and looking closer...they don't really look that sharp to me. If the hawk would have said to me..."If you get any closer...I'll slice you up"...it might have helped me in my identification.
Such a pretty bird. So efficient in its stalking, flying, plucking, and eating. I'm glad he didn't follow me home. I don't like them in my backyard.
I wanted to gawk at more hawk...to have them squawk and give back-talk. I'll chalk it up to bad luck. I found a hawk that wasn't into small talk, and didn't like to have his picture taken. Perhaps I should have offered him some chicken soup.
