Simply Me

Because reading matters

In 2011, a librarian in the Scottish Poetry Library found a gift - a sculpture of an old book with a tree growing out of it. It was made from poetry and was in support of libraries, books, words and ideas.

Throughout 2011sculptures appeared all over Edinburgh, creating massive media attention. The sculptor, as per her wishes in a note left with one of her sculptures, wanted to remain anonymous.

Without meeting her, the Scottish Book Trust commissioned her in 2012 as part of Book Week Scotland. They asked her to make 5 further sculptures inspired by Scottish Classics. These 5 are now housed in The National Library of Scotland, where I visited today. This one represents Compton Mackenzie's Whisky Galore (1947).

I absolutely love them. I bought a book about the sculptures at the Library and have decided to find the others this year if they're still on show. So fingers crossed you'll be seeing more of them soon...

In other news, today I went to a free yoga class with my friend Susan, took down my christmas decorations and was overjoyed to be able to use the blipfoto app again. Good times.
