Standing room only!!

After sleeping for 10hrs last night without moving, the heat and exertion yesterday had an unexpected affect, I was ready for today’s events!!

Crafters group, breakfast, then a talk on comets. The reasons for attending the comet one was firstly B was interested and secondly we wanted seats for the following talk by one of the pilots that joined the ship when we were in Darwin yesterday. It was a good move as the theatre was packed and people were standing on the steps around the sides.

We are presently sailing in an eastward direction and will continue southwards to Port Douglas, our next port of call. We will be sailing between the Australian mainland and the Great Barrier Reef, a tricky area for any ship, let alone one of the size of the Diamond Princess!! The pilot team will be with us until we dock in Brisbane.

The talk was fascinating and thought provoking when we realised that there may be times when we only have about a metre spare under the ship!! I have trust in the team that will take us through without any scratches to the ship’s bottom!!

We are due to tender into Port Douglas in 2 days and have been informed that cyclone Nathan is due to hit the area 24 hours before our arrival. The captain and crew are monitoring the weather situation so see if the planned visit is safe. We will be updated as things progress!! The sea at present is flat calm! I’ve seen more movement on the duck pond back home, than there is today!!
