Literary doors 5

Ok, I claim a victory!   But I only got it by being ridiculously cryptic.  

Arthur Conan Doyle published two big Sherlock Holmes stories in serial for in The Strand Magazine!   He was born at No 11 Picardy Place, now demolished to produce the open space in front of St Mary's RC Cathedral  Doyle's personal tragedy was the alcoholism of his father, which led the family into increasingly dire straits.

And today's literary figure?   He opened a box in Edinburgh Castle and found.......?
