Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

Back Home!

For my last morning in Holland, we went koffie drinken, of course. The village coffee shop was mobbed with fit looking ('fit' in the old sense of the word) ladies of a certain age. It was a walking group. They came from all over Holland and go on walks together. In the morning paper it said that there were 700 of them!! There were a few men, too. But funnily enough, T knows many older women who have been widowed for many years.

I declined the offer of a Dutch speciality at the market - raw herring. Eek! There was a big table full of very lovely really old ladies (80s and 90s) all dressed up in their finery, having a birthday party. How I wanted to take photos!

In all the driving, cycling and walking in Holland, I did not see ONE piece of litter! This is how it should be. But not in the UK, sadly.

We had the fabulous Vlaams Frites (Flemish chips) for lunch at the airport. Best chips ever.

And look who's back on blip!

The passport will be packed away for a while, Archie!
