Diary of an Edinburgher

Nice shoes!

My day started in the wee sma' hours with a 'beep...beep' - minute's pause - then 'beep...beep'. This went on for ages before it drove me mad and I had to get up and investigate. I couldn't track it down as it wasn't quite long enough to locate, but eventually found it was the old phone handset, still with batteries in, but running out! Most annoying.

Archie, in his bed in the hall, had been disturbed too, so I brought him into bed for a bonus hour or so. He's really sweet - curls up beside me, then lies back, so that his head is on my pillow, or more usually, my face. I don't mind, as long as I can breath.

Watched Tim Peake landing safely, then we popped into town to see a 'circus' in the Grassmarket... Well, not much sign of circussy stuff happening - there was a swing. And a pole for balancing on. And some hula hoops for kids to try. It may have been all go later.

But we did have a wander round the market, tried some mead, admired the breads, then popped into a dog friendly cafe. We loved the young lady's shoes across the cafe, while having the BEST flat white (with soya milk). So we had to go and chat to her. Turns out she was the owner, so she was pleased with the positive feedback. And Archie loved her shoes.

Through town, past the Maison de Moggy cafe. Archie didn't notice the big white fluffy cat sitting on a cushion in the window, watching him as he passed by. I'd put it in as an extra if my iPad would allow me!

Arrived home in time for the second half of the Scotland/Japan game. Watched the Murray match, then the hedge could wait no longer. I thought I'd do half of it today, but managed to do the whole thing. JR, after she'd taken Archie up the Hill, swept up - two bins full!

Then a new dog borrower, Elizabeth, came to meet Archie. She took him for a walk while we finished the hedge. She loves him. We know this because while she was away, her parents (whom we know) had met her and then her sister came by and said she'd texted them a photo of Archie saying she was out with him.

The hedge clipping deserved a reward - a G&T then tea (dinner/supper) out in the warm sun in the back garden.

I'm now sitting on the sofa, and can see a beautiful, clipped hedge! I can take it easy tomorrow. Except that the lawns need doing...
