Cliffs of Moher
Today's the day ........................ for a sea trip
I took so many pictures today that I hardly know where to begin!
We took a trip on the MV Happy Hooker from the small port of Doolin, south of the Burren in County Clare - across to Inis Oirr, the smallest of the Aran Islands. It's about 3 kms across and everywhere is within walking distance - but the locals do their best to get you to ride in their pony-drawn carts. Behind the main village, there is a small hill with a castle and a fort at the top - and the whole hillside is covered with dry-stone walls. The walls are built in a very characteristic way and enclose really quite small areas. It must have taken a lot of hard work to accomplish.
We returned to the mainland via the spectacular Cliffs of Moher. The boat bobbed up and down at the base of the sea stack Branaunmore, shown here. The cliffs are more than 200m high at this point and are packed with seabirds of many kinds including guillemots, razorbills, fulmars, kittiwakes, cormorants and puffins.................
