Rest Day

Today was a day free of orienteering. Unfortunately rain descended so we decided on a trip to Rjukan. Here we visited the museum which was the site for attempts to disrupt theGermans wanting access to heavy water. This was seen as vital to the development of the Atom bomb.

This statue celebrates the most decorated Norwegian resistance fighter Gunnar Sonsteby who was consistently disrupting the German Occupation.

As we returned to our ski lodge there was a heavy shower which led to an amazing flash flood. The roads turned to torrents and huge amounts of debris was washed down the slopes. Fortunately on site bulldozers were on hand to repair the access roads.
