Classic Phone Boxes...

As part of the regeneration of St. Peter's Square I noticed that they have returned two of the iconic red, British phone boxes. Some tourists were having fun with them taking selfies. Apart form that, as we all seem to have mobile phones, do they serve any useful purpose apart from being attractive and historic?
