Exploring Quito

We had a relaxed morning, - FaceTime with #2 daughter and her boys who were in good form. James is always pestering big brother to play, and eventually got him to plsy chase on the stairs.

We got a bus to a viewpoint above the city - where the big angel is on the blip. To get there we had to pass through the old town which we walked around a couple of weeks ago. It was really busy, being Saturday. At the top we found there was some kind of indigenous ceremony going on. We decided it wasn't a demonstration, of which there are many in Ecuador, as there were only a couple of police there, and they were taking photos. Also, the people were in ceremonial dress. They formed a long line, two deep, with a large piece of plastic sheet held to form a funnel. People pored beans and seeds into the funnel, and chanted. We think it was either a festival asking the gods to bring a fruitful harvest, or a harvest thanksgiving.

Had we been here longer a few days attending Spanish lessons might have been a good idea.
