Rugby, rugby and more rugby
It has been a rugby filled weekend so far. Last night Luke had some friends around and we all watched the opening ceremony of the Rugby World Cup which was followed by the England v Fiji match, which England thankfully won. It was beers and burgers for the guys before the rugby and some more celebratory drinks after the rugby - they all stayed over so did not have to drive home afterwards.
Two extra photos, one of the match and one of some serious lens envy!
Today was more rugby as we had tickets to Twickenham to see France v Italy. However, the day first started with a bacon and egg breakfast for all the boys which was more like brunch as they woke up rather late. The guests then left and the family went to watch Thomas' rugby match. It was a gloriously sunny day and more like cricket weather. He did not play his best today, but his team still won by 38-12.
We rushed home after his match, ate an early supper (which I had prepared in the morning) and got the train to Twickenham. The journey there was very efficient with marshalls everywhere directing the crowds around Twickenham. The atmosphere was electric with many French and Italian supporters, all singing their national songs and dressed up in the colours of their respective flags. Many Frenchmen were dressed up in traditional clothing wearing berets and garlic garlands. I liked the colours of the crowds in the stadium, as seen here.
It was very exciting to be at Twickenham and to feel that atmosphere and hear all the support from the fans - but to be honest it is a whole lot easier to watch the match at home on our large screen TV in the comfort of our own home with drinks and snacks on hand! At the end of the match, with a crowd capacity of 82000 people at Twickenham one just knew it was going to take time to get out of there and to find a train home. We walked for ages to get out of the stadium and to get to the area where the roads had not been closed off so that we could get an uber taxi home - luckily we do not live that far from the stadium and were home in about 15 minutes once we got in the taxi.
