Across the Outer Harbour
11.0C starting bright then clouding over. Zephyr..
Maeve the Deerhound and I went through to Arbroath before 9am and had our walk round the harbour. The lock gate to the inner harbour was closed so we could walk round in a loop. As we had been approaching Arbroath I had looked ahead and had seen that there was a boat on the boatyard slip so we walked round to the boatyard, and as I had hoped the boat was Marigold. It was clear that several coats of paint have been applied to the hull and it now looks solid and gleaming. Next time I hope to notice some rebuilding above deck.
Some of the larger creel boats were out at sea. Some were in the inner basin. One boat, Good Friend, was partly suspended by its mooring ropes against the outer harbour wall near the harbour entrance. Loaded with creels, she was tied up near the place where a lot of the creels are stored over winter. Low tide was due at just after 11am. I find it odd that the skipper didn't realise the tide would drop so much since he usually moors against the harbour wall near the boatyard where the tide drops a long way. It isn't many weeks since I saw Orianna dangling at an odd angle against the outer harbour wall due to a similar lack of slack in the mooring ropes. She had even been in the boatyard earlier in the year for repair after a similar incident. I hope Good Friend refloats with just a few scrapes when the tide comes in through the afternoon.
Today's shot was taken on the road which runs inside the outer harbour wall looking across the outer harbour basin to the lock gates of the inner harbour. The Signal Tower museum can be seen to the left of shot, its reflection in the harbour entrance. On the right two of the larger day tip boats were tied up. Ardent, the boat in last Saturday's shot, was already out at sea.
Maeve and I crossed the lock gate and walked back round the inner basin to where I had left the car.
Maeve and I went for a walk after lunch. Big Country on the Nano (Through a Big Country). Just a 2 mile loop down to the shore road and round the main road and back home.
World Cup rugby union quarter finals on the telly later this afternoon when it is South Africa v Wales, and again this evening when we have New Zealand v France.
