The Aftermath
We popped into Wetherby this morning - and whilst there I wandered down to the bridge and weir area to see the state of the river after the Boxing Day floods.
The water was pretty much back to normal levels but the mess left behind is amazing. About six inches of sand and silt cover the paths and the car park was being cleaned up by a couple of roadsweepers.
At the weir itself this sculpture was sporting a new hairdo giving an indication of the depth of the flood water - the top here stands about 5 metres above the normal water level!
Back in town I spotted a random plant growing out of a chimney stack. I liked the sharp outlines of the stacks and the assortment of chimney pots against the clear blue sky - shot added as an extra.
On our walk later the damage to crops / fields is evident and several hastily dug drainage ditches have appeared. This is just from rainfall - they are not near a river. An example added in extras
