The accidental finding

The 1950s, part 2

My literature and social history course began again today in Stonehouse. Today's session was about film and musicals of the late 1950s. As usual, it was full of surprises: particularly striking was  the anti-racist message of the film version of South Pacific. This caused no end of trouble when the film was shown in the Southern states of the US. Offence was taken to the song "You've got to be taught" which implies that racism is inculcated rather than inborn. As I've only ever watched the fim with the reels shown in the wrong order, I was somewhat confused by the actual storyline, but it's clearer now.
