At the Wholemeal Cafe

Friend Rachel and I drove over the Takaka Hill to Golden Bay this afternoon. We spent time in the town of Takaka. The artwork in the art gallery in the old Bank of New Zealand was amazing. After a very late lunch at the Wholemeal Cafe, pictured here, we drove on to Collingwood. Rachel did some photography there while I bought hand-made chocolate. We then drove 25km further north to Wharariki. Once there we trudged with camera bags and tripods up and over the hill to Wharariki Beach. This is a special spot made famous by the Archway Islands just off shore. Alas it was cloudy and the light not great for photography. But we persisted and each of us captured a number of images. We met a number of young French people on the beach and a very nice German couple back at the carpark. Rachel drove all of the over 200kms there and back... A long and tiring drive over the notorious Takaka Hill. It was a relief to get back to our cosy caravan. Another full and interesting day!
