2016 Monday -- First of Fourteen
As we wandered through a bookstore in the community of Pacific Grove and found a copy of Ted Kooser's book of Valentine poems, eight years ago in January 2008, I gained a new appreciation for the celebration of Valentine's Day. We were there in the city of Monterey at the top of California's Central Coast for a week of winter vacation. I don't have the book with me at the moment; my two copies are at our house in southern California.
These flowers, sitting lovely on my new dining table, are a soft entrance into this month of Love.
Our daughter phoned early this morn from our SoCal home. She wanted to remind us that we were in a new month, the month of love, is how she referred to it.
After lunch today at about 12:30, we realized low tide had been an hour ago, so we put on the pups' harnesses and leashes and headed to the shoreline at the pier. There was absolutely no one on the sand; I'm sure that had everything to do with the bitter cold wind. We walked quickly, gathered a few pieces of sea glass and then climbed back into the warmth of the car with its heater.
On the way back to the house we stopped at the library to borrow a few DVDs and then stopped at the bakery for 3 fresh baked cookies for $1. Then we stopped at the pharmacy because they have a good selection of greeting cards and tomorrow is my Pop's 91st birthday , so we then went past the Post Office to put the card in the mail and learned that it had a slim possibility of getting there on his birthday tomorrow.
I also managed today to get some of my teaching materials prepared and submitted by email for the new college semester that begins in 2 weeks.
