Like A Bird to the Sky
Today I am on my way to go see my father in Georgia. Since his house burned down a while back, it has been harder to maintain our relationship. But I promised him the night of the fire that I would still talk to him as much as I could and last summer I swore to him that I would make a trip there every summer.
Well, here I am fulfilling my promise to him. This will be the second summer I go see him in Georgia. I am very excited.
Yet I was very surprised when I stepped onto the tarmac, expecting to see a full-sized jetliner, and saw this little prop-job airplane. I literally got to walk onto this plane. It was a dinky little thing. This plane had only 8 rows and no first class. Because it was so small, I had to check my carry-on luggage plane-side because it wouldn't fit in the cabin.
It's amazing to me how much we take for granted. When you fly, you don't really think of the magnificence of it. Minus the fact that this was a cheap little ole' airplane, there was a time that this was the most high-tech thing to fly in. Before the 747's and luxury planes, this was the way to fly. And even before that, mankind's mastery of taking flight to the sky. How crazy of a feat was that!??! The simpler things in life are ignored so easily now. We take everything for granted. That iPhone or BlackBerry you use everyday, how often do you sit there and think, "Wow, this is a neat little gadget." My guess, never. Have we really become so self-absorbed that we can't even appreciate the finer things in life anymore?
