Lake District Day One
We left Edinburgh basking in sunshine (though not for long, most probably) and headed to the Lake District, which wasn't.
JR went to Pets at Home yesterday to buy carsick pills for dogs. No - they only sell them online! So no pill, and Archie was sick within half an hour,. He was allowed to sit on my knee for the rest of the journey. I had a sick bag (poo bag) ready to shove his face into if needed. I know it's not the safest arrangement, and it's not a solution, but it worked today.
It took us a lot longer than what the AA suggested, partly because, despite having the sat nav and a map, we took a wrong exit and had to proceed down the motorway for ages before we could turn and head back up.
Never mind - the hotel is lovely. Great position right on the Main Square, very upmarket, too, with groovy furniture and decor. The room is good, with a super walk-in shower. We had an excellent meal (part of our inclusive deal) and the most amazing chips ever!
Archie was able to sit with us in the dining room, and he was very good. Though not as good as the two wee Westies who just lay down and slept. BUT... the whole ambience was completely spoiled by the 'disco beat' muzak which invaded everywhere. And of course, I did mention it to the manager, asking him if he had any music that a person over, say, 50, might actually like. He claimed he had no control over it, but, give him his due, did try to turn it down in our area.
Archie loves it here - the town (and hotel) is FULL of dogs! Masses of 'em. Before dinner, we took Archie to a nearby park, where he charged back and forth between us. The hotel provide a dog bed. They also provide a 'spa' for dogs to wash their muddy paws. It was just a hose. And it didn't work. Though JR held his feet in what I think was a garden water feature.
I think it might even be dry tomorrow!
