Flowerz meanz beanz

... we hope!

I should think these flowers show that we should have some kind of crop, barring disasters. But even without beans, I thought the flowers were striking enough in colour to deserve a Blipfoto submission.

On 27 May, I published a Blipfoto showing the small wigwam we had constructed for our bean efforts this year, and the young bean plants that we had grown from seed.

Now, two calendar months on, the bean stalks have grown well beyond the top of the wigwam, and are up in the trees. We should really cut them off there, but it seems a pity, and I am inclined to see how far they will get, even at the expense of ultimate yield.

We wait with interest to see what kind of harvest we get this year. Each year since we came to this house (July 2006), we have tried siting the beans in different places, but there isn't anywhere really good that gets full exposure to the sun. So this is an ongoing experiment. We've had some crop each year since 2007, and there is no question that the fresh, home-grown beans are exceptionally delicious. If there only a few beans, no matter: each one can be savoured as a special treat!
