Diary of an Edinburgher

Another perfect day in Noosa

I surprised myself by getting up and going out to the marina to watch the sunrise. I had thought that Percy the pelican and his friends slept there, and I would catch them waking up and stretching in the morning sun and flat calm river...

No, the pelicans don't sleep there. No, it wasn't calm. But I did see a fisherman catch a big fish. Drove back home and went back to bed for another hour. It was a lovely day, with a wee chill in the breeze, so needed a cardie - just like a normal Edinburgh summer. Oh... but nobody in Edinburgh can remember what that's like!

We were up before Barry came round to mow the lawns. He appeared at the door in the most incredible Aussie hat ever! I MUST blip him in it. It was evidently about 100 years old, and was held together by (not very neat) hand stitching. Brilliant! What a man!

Walked to the river and stalked Percy the pelican for a while (he does get around!). Of course, just missed his friend Priscilla landing. Drat! Then we met up with two Kiwis later at a riverside cafe and had a good old yak and a free muffin. These two Kiwis house sit every winter in Noosa, and have done so for years. If it wasn't quite so far from Edinburgh, I'd be quite happy to winter here every year.

From there we went down to the beach, haven't been there in the evening for several days. Always lots going on. I chose my blip of this chap off to do some standy-up paddling, which I think looks like terrific fun. I'm not going to be able to do beachy blips when I get back to Edinburgh, so I might as well do lots of them now!

We had been invited for tea (dinner) at our neighbours, K and J. It's great just to be able to wander across the road for a scrumptious meal, wine and convivial company!

Amazingly enough, our amiable neighbours have a daughter who married and lives in Jersey. We have good pals who live in Jersey, so it was a bit surreal to see a familiar famous Jersey artist on their walls! A great night -sparkling conversation, a delicious meal, very nice wine and a short walk home.

A perfect end to a perfect day. Again. I could get used to this...
