Diary of an Edinburgher

Archie's unusual lunch...

Anne (one of Archie's favourite borrowers) and her boyfriend were coming for lunch, so JR was busy all morning in the kitchen. I did the hoovering, with the proviso that JR did not do it all again, which has happened on more than one occasion.

We had an ulterior motive. Apart from seeing Anne before she goes to America for a wee holiday (Chattanooga, here she comes!) we had a suggestion for her when she comes back re Archie. Fortunately, she thought this was a great idea!

Anne loves Archie, and her young man had been told that if Archie didn't take to him, then that could be the end of a beautiful friendship. But he encouraged Archie through his (limited) repertoire of tricks, giving him treats, so of course Archie loved him. Phew.

While we were having lunch, Archie took himself off out of the kitchen. I'm always suspicious of what he's up to, but today, I was more interested in my meal. And what was he up to? Only munching through most of a big slab of suet and mealworms bird food!! He was fair licking his chops for ages after it was removed from his jaws. He doesn't seem any worse for wear. So far...

In the afternoon, we met Bailey and her mum up the hill, and the dogs had a big run - Bailey even made it right back to me on the bench this time. It was windy, but a warm wind. The car park was mobbed - Doors Open Day for the Observatory.

Janet came back for tea and we watched yesterday's Joanna Lumley's Japan, none of us being Strictly fans.

Bird station news: A great big fat pigeon came and sat on our bird station, but did not (could not) sample the fare. Must get that 'No Pigeons' sign up...
