Armstrong Cottages

When we drive past here yesterday I noticed how the autumnal trees toned with the roofs of these cottages, so I took a detour on my walk back from the gym to take a picture. Sadly the stunning light of yesterday has gone, but it's still possible to see the mellow tones and colour.

These cottages were built opposite the workhouse in 1896 by Baron Armstrong of Cragside, as almshouses, in memory of his wife. In the last floods the river got ingress. Now they are working on flood defences across the road, so hopefully they will be safe this year.
