Cold and frosty

I was out with the camera and just caught a buzzard landing on the tall pine tree possibly a Noble fir. Luckily I caught a couple of shots but once looking on the iPad could see the flying debris he dispersed on landing. We can only think it's a cone disintegrating but believe it isn't from this tree, was he carrying one?

This fir only had about 12 cones this year and as you can see there are brown needles in places, it very tall and hope it survives a few more years.
