Aladdin
Today saw the first performance (to parents, anyway) of the school production of Aladdin, the Disney Junior version. Something I love about her school is that instead of fighting the kids in their desire to embrace Christmas, they given in completely to it and just go all out. I have never known a school decorated like it. I have never known a school Christmas tree like it. And they do in the region of 6 different Christmas performances - a FY/Y1 nativity, a y2/3 panto (though this years was a musical rather than panto), an orchestra festival of Christmas music, a y4-6 extravaganza in the Minster & a choir show. Katie was, as I have mentioned in previous days, a dancer. She was asked to lead her three dances. And she absolutely sparkled on stage. She had a ball, danced her socks off and shined so bright.
I had arranged to take her home with me then as she'd have had to leave school before lunch time anyway so I needed to give her time to get sorted, eat and things before heading to what was supposed to be pantomime dress rehearsal. It didn't go at all to plan. They spent the first hour in the seats, wrapped in every piece of clothing we could find as there was no power or heating. The power was not properly dealt with but was sufficiently fixed that they could light and heat the children's dressing rooms, but the auditorium takes three hours to warm up so it was too cold for them to wear their costumes and they did most of their dances without any music. Every one of their dances has been changed, one of them is now in a different half and has brought about a VERY quick change for them. We were nearly two hours late getting home because they kept the kids late to learn the finale and then we were asked to do an extra drop off of a child, which was fine but doubled our journey time because it was rush hour.
It's ok.... it's not like we open tomorrow night.... Oh wait....
