Diary of an Edinburgher

Nu drama

Tuesday is Annemique Day. She came on her bike, left it here, and biked home in the dark when she brought Archie back. A planned luncheon in town was cancelled due to an attack of couldnaebebothered. I did ring and cancel, of course.

JR's bad words and grumpy mood continued yesterday, even after the chocolate cake mix was cleaned up, and the cup cakes rescued. Something else had happened to really tip her over the edge - she had spilled melted oily butter on her brand new, grey nubuck boots! The ganache for the chocolate cake icing had split, and she was trying to rescue it by very vigorously hand whisking it while holding the bowl.

Which meant that she was frantically trying all sorts to remedy the disaster all day, though she didn't mention it to me. I realised something was wrong when she was using the hairdryer on her boots in the middle of night because she'd just read on Google not to leave nubuck wet.

She has calmed down somewhat today, resigned to perhaps having navy nubuck boots instead. I have recommended wearing slippers inside at all times. Especially when in the kitchen.

Taking advantage of Archie's absence, I set up the camera at the window to try to catch either the robin or the blue tit. Archie doesn't like the sound of the camera motor drive, which is louder than normal because it's on the table.

The morning's bird photography was not a success - the the birds always went to the wrong place. Or, to be more accurate, the camera was always pointing at the wrong place...

The bluetit pecked nicely at the suet when I was focussing on the seeds and (hopefully) the robin. I moved the camera to the suet, and the robin posed nicely with the seeds. But I held my nerve and awaited the bluetit's return. But each time (many times, every half hour or so) it hung on the wrong parts of the suet cage. Eventually I gave up in exasperation. So this one of the suet, and by the way, a blue tit, will have to do. Don't go large!

But all was not lost entirely - I could also watch the Aussie Open tennis at the same time. British players are doing really well for a change! Andy on tomorrow.
