Diary of an Edinburgher

East Neuk!

Before we set off this morning, I rang the Chinese Medicine shop and left a message. As we were walking out the door, the phone went - it was the elusive Mr Wan, whom I'd met in the sauna and who assured me he could 'fix' my knees. I've got an appointment to see him on Friday!

Archie was sick after an hour or so - I blame the never-ending roundabouts on the road to the East Neuk. But he was fine when we stopped and had a freezing walk on the beach at Elie. I've only ever been there in sunshine, on summer jaunts. We didn't last long before we retired to the pub. Archie was very good - he didn't bark at the spaniel at the next table, he didn't cry when JR went to the bar, and he said nothing when the two people next to us who were sharing a bottle of wine were joined by the four excited children we'd seen rolling around on the sand dunes, oblivious to the cold.

On to our destination, Anstruther, where we found our cosy little cottage no bother. And we also found the two wee welcoming bottles of prosecco and a treat for Archie. And it's about two minutes from the famous fish'n'chip shop.

We had a walk along the waterfront in the freezing wind - huge waves had been splashing over the walls. Then back to the cottage with takeaway fish suppers. This is the life! But we always forget that we can't quite manage a whole fish supper each. Archie was happy to help, though no chips for him.

Contemplating doing part of the Coastal Path tomorrow...
