New Slains Castle
I am firmly of the opinion that any amount of indolence can be excused if you do one indisputable activity each day. Thus, in my quotidian ledger, a day bookended by a long lie-in and a relaxed, boozy evening can be entirely blameless if, for example, you go out for a long walk to a local landmark.
Not that we walked all the way to New Slains Castle but the car park was some distance from the ruins and it was cold and very windy. The ruins themselves are quite amazing and also surprisingly free from restrictions and warnings. You can, for example, ascend a tall spiral staircase and finish up on a small landing with nothing more than your sense of self-preservation to keep you safe.
