Diary of an Edinburgher

France Day Two

A leisurely start today - we sailed to Libourne, where we berthed and after lunch, were taken by bus to St Emilion, which is a really pretty wee town, full of cobbled, hilly streets and hundreds dozens of wine shops.

The weather app showed thunderstorms for today. We had packed raincoats in Edinburgh, having checked the weather every day, but did we take them with us today? No. We set off in bright sunshine, but by the time we arrived - torrential rain. We were not the only silly people.

However, the rain did go off, and we only got a bit wet walking around. We had a tour under the catacombs (while the sun was out, of course), and the biggest underground church in the world Europe. An expensive coffee out of the rain, and then we were whisked off to Chateau Siaurac for 'aperitifs'.

It was the epitome of 'shabby chic' - old worn Persian carpets, low slung sofas impossible to get out of, and dozens of very interesting objets (possibly d'art). I sat on a chair and broke the back, then I made a red wine stain on an antique table (possibly an heirloom), and swiftly moved on to another room and stood in the middle, touching nothing. So it was even shabbier chic after my visit.

Dinner was good, with the highlight being Crêpes Suzette. I could not wait to wolf down my pork tenderloins and dash over to the pudding chef. Though I didn't manage to go up for seconds.

Very tired. Changed our 8.30 outing tomorrow for the more civilised hour of 9.30.
