Last day

We spent the last morning at our farmhouse enjoying the pool and packing up. Our flights weren't till the evening so we decided to head back to the mainland and go to Valetta. We hadn't accounted for the election celebrations to still be going on (they were much more low key on Gozo!) and we got snarled up in a procession of trucks and buses and cars loaded with people waving flags and drinking beer and shouting and dancing. It was quite something to see!

Whoever gets in next Thursday/Friday I wouldn't feel like celebrating. I just feel I have to pick the best of a bad bunch. Whoever gets in has got one hell of a job to do to try and sort everything out! And none of them ever do what they say they will anyway (though Id have been quite happy if Cameron hadn't done the Brexit vote) The Maltese seemed so passionate about the result - I can't imagine anyone in Britain being like that!

So we wasted over an hour of our last day queuing to go up to a roundabout and turn round and get out of Valetta as lots of roads were shut and we were worried if we stayed to look about we'd get snarled up in the traffic and be late for the flight.

Instead we headed to the coast not far from the airport. There was a nice fishing village with lovely traditional boats. But it was very busy there and we struggled to find a table for lunch and the only place with tables had terrible service boardering on rude, which was sad as it was our last meal of the holidays and wanted to leave with a good impression. Definitely prefer Gozo to Malta.  The food was ok. We had an hour to spare so went to St Peters Pool and got ice creams and sat and watched the swimmers diving off the rocks.

Arrived back in the UK at 11pm. It took us two hours to get through passport control and baggage reclaim and back to the car. The kids finally in bed at 1am. They slept for the last 20 mins of the flight and it as so hard to wake them to get them off the plane. Then they fell asleep in the car and had to wake up to get them in the house. Toby has school in the morning - he already missed a day :0/
