If you can't beat them...

Wildlife Recording.

A fascinating and useful day!  I had booked on to a date run by Cumbria Wildlife Trust and supported by Cumbria Biodiversity Data Centre.  We began with a session in Mungrisedale Village hall Dealing with the what where when and how to record including suitable apps and websites.  Two points which I had never thought about were:  "somethings may only be rare because they are under recorded" and "record common things as without the records we don't know how they are doing".

From the village hall we headed up onto the Eycott Hill reserve, where we were met (unfortunately) by a BBC camera crew.  The object of this session was to put into practice what we had learned (and I certainly revived/learned a lot of field botany).  Eycott Hill has 760 species so far.  A recent beginners course had added 27.  We managed to include a few new species including my Common Lizard.

The shot shows Stuart Colgate from CBDC being interviewed for "Look North" (centre back) and the rest of us spread out searching for plant and insect species.  The half days filming yielded a report of about 90 seconds but giving the Wildlife Trust and CBDC some useful publicity.  Fortunately i managed to avoid all shots othwer than the very openning sequence.
