Washout
There you have it, confirmation of this summer's dismalness found in yesterday's Sunday Times. Had the statistics of August's weather been available, the conclusion would have been cemented. I now feel justified in saying that I have never in my lifetime experienced a summer as dire as this one of 2017.
On yet another morning of general greyness and forecasted rain, I cheered myself by going to the gym..........Really? Not exactly, but I probably felt better after the hour of aerobics than an hour of cleaning the oven and dusting had I stayed at home.
At the moment I am being inundated with brochures and emails advertising the new season's clothes. All well and good but quickly despatched to the waste paper basket and junk mail file once I've realised that most of the garments have no relevance to me as an ageing midget.
The models are noted as being 5'9" and a size10. According to Google, the average height of a British woman is 5'3" and she fits a size16.
It is a form of blatant misrepresentation to promote clothes with an illustration bearing no relation to how they will look on ordinary average women. Clothes at least 6" shorter and wider are never going to look as attractive.
All my life I have been shortening hems and sleeves. My mother who was 5'9" ( but not a size10) had to buy her clothes in the shop, Long Tall Sally. How iniquitous is that.
When I was googling average heights, I was disturbed to come on a piece of research done at Edinburgh University which detailed a small correlation between height and IQ. The taller, the higher the IQ. Oh dear, it's not going well for me this morning........but wait - I might live longer as a midget than the tall people. Could that count as being clever?
